May 14, a Saturday, is a day I'll never forget - Katy's birthday. World War II was in progress with a shortage of nurses. It was a most difficult pregnancy but when I saw my beautiful baby with a head covered with black hair, I forgot the ordeal. She made rapid progress and in a few months was a beautiful bald baby, the most complacent baby. I was completely oblivious to everything else but her. As she developed, her head was covered with curly, blond hair, with blue eyes. Also to-day Tommy Webb asked me if he could plant our garden this year. What a load of anxiety did he remove from me!
From the journals and writings of Mary Flanagan {August 14, 1904 - December 3, 1993}. Curated by her granddaughter, Ilsa Flanagan.
